I think writing becomes a natural part of a creative’s arsenal. An intimate form of journalism. Since, eventually there comes a time, where your journey as a creative leads you to the place where others have not been before. An uncharted terrain. A terrain which you and only you can navigate.
Where all of your new skills will come to bear.
To do something that hasn’t been done before.
You can broaden “writing” to documenting.
Since, with modern technology, You and I now have the ability to reach inside of our minds in a multitude of ways. Video, Audio, Animation, Mindmapping.
The list goes on.
The medium only matters to the extent that it captures your vision.
Why call it an “intimate form of journalism”?
Because you are peering through the window of your soul.
Understanding how your life and its actions have spoken to you.
How you are making meaning out of the existing relationships.
How you are making new meaning.
This is something that is done externally and internally.
It’s a dance.
Step 1: You interact with the external world, Step 2: You interact with your internal world.
Note, the interesting thing about this dance, it’s bi-directional.
The steps can go in reverse.
Your internal world can change the external reality around you.
As long as you allow it to make meaning.
